Know your garden's natives
- Native Regeneration Gardening Project
IEWF, through the work of Karina Hanemann, was successful in gaining an Environmental Trust grant
in February 2005. The project essentially is the development of an exciting new educational
concept for helping people identify the remnant native plants within their own backyard.
The website is designed to be a fun way to introduce people to their "Hidden Garden" of native
plants and animals, and make them aware of the environmental weeds which may be lurking.
They are given hints as to how to care for their newly found treasures and given links to
other related websites to broaden their interest and understanding.
A demonstration garden has been identified for on-site discovery and discussion, and education
kits are being developed for school and community use.
The plants and animals associated with this site are found in coastal regions of NSW,
Victoria and SE Queensland however everyone from anywhere can benefit from
its concepts and can help us build this program by introducing it to schools and local community groups.
Discover your own "Hidden Garden" by exploring
Know your garden's natives
website.
This project has been assisted
by the New South Wales Government
through its Environmental Trust. |
